The key characteristics of stage combat swords

A stage combat sword is not only an impressive accessory, but also a tool specially designed for safe use in stage combat. To minimize the risk of injury, such swords have a rounded tip and a blunt blade with a striking edge of two or three millimeters.

Stage combat swords are usually made of high-quality materials such as carbon steel, which not only ensure authenticity but also robustness. After all, the equipment must withstand the stresses during fights. Swords designed for stage combat also typically feature a balanced weight distribution, ensuring an authentic experience.

In stage combat and reenactment, great importance is placed on historically accurate equipment. Therefore, stage combat swords are usually replicas that faithfully replicate historical swords from antiquity, the Middle Ages, or modern times.

The different classes of stage combat swords

Both the manufacturing process and the materials used as well as the quality can vary considerably between individual designs. Therefore, stage combat swords are assigned to different quality classes. These make it easier for you to choose the right blade. The cutting and thrusting weapons are usually divided into three classes:

  • Combat class SK-A: Combat swords of class SK-A are especially suitable for professionals who regularly train with swords or engage in combat performances. The blades are made of high-quality steel, have a hardness level of at least 50 HRC, and are very well balanced.
  • Combat Class SK-B: In the case of combat swords of class SK-B, the hardness level is at least 48 HRC. The blades are also made of quality steels and have a fairly well-balanced center of gravity, but may weigh slightly more than those of class A models. This quality class is particularly suitable for advanced users looking to refine their skills.
  • Combat class SK-C: Models of the SK-C class are primarily designed for beginners who want to perform their first exercises with a sword. In corresponding designs, the blade hardness is slightly lower, with less than 48 HRC, which is why fights with harder blades can quickly lead to nicks. For this reason, combat swords of class C are comparatively inexpensive.

Learn stage combat: An art of its own

The stage combat is not just a sequence of movements, but also a journey through the history of martial arts. Since stage combat swords are usually authentic replicas of historical models, they allow for realistic training. By using a sword designed for stage combat, you can improve your combat skills and develop a deep understanding of the corresponding fighting style.

Structured stage combat training focuses on a gradual development of skills. This means starting with basic movements and postures before moving on to advanced techniques. Safety of participants should always be the top priority during training. This can be ensured through protective gear and clear training guidelines.
