Description
Hanwei - Tinker Early Medieval Sword with Blunt Blade
Michael 'Tinker' Pearce has designed a series of Hanwei swords made from 1516065160 steel, combining authenticity, functionality, and performance
To meet the varying needs of Western martial artists, each of the seven swords, all of which offer excellent handling, is available in both a sharp and a blunt version. The careful heat treatment of the (preferred by Tinker) 5160 steel through hot bath hardening (English: marquenching) results in an excellent combination of strength and flexibility with a Rockwell hardness of 50-52 HRC. This enables the sharp blades to have higher edge retention, while preventing burr formation in the dull models and ensuring the safety-related flexibility of the tip
For each type of sword in this series, replacement blades are available, except for the Early Viking Sword. A key feature of Tinker's designs is that the blades are interchangeable. This gives you the opportunity to purchase a complete sword plus a spare blade, so you can use both the sharp and the blunt version. All longswords, bastard swords, and early medieval swords feature Tinker's special assembly system with internal hexagon socket cap nuts, allowing for easy blade replacement using an Allen key and ensuring that the handle remains securely attached.
The early medieval swords (Oakeshott Type X11) are available in a sharp and a blunt version. Both are identical in handling. The sharp sword is provided with a fuller that extends over about one third of the blade, with a diamond-shaped cross-section flattened towards the tip. The blunt version features a wide, flat hollow grind to shift the weight towards the edges. So the blade provides safety without compromising sensitivity. The cross-shaped handle is both beautiful and functional. A leather-wrapped sheath is included
