Kalter Stahl - Waldläufer-Saxophon
Did you know that the name of the Saxons was derived from the knife they carried with them?? It is indeed true that the sax knife played such an important role in the daily life of this tribe that the entire people were named after it.
What was so special about this knife, which was made from 6". up to 12. century was widespread? The answer is simple: It was easy and inexpensive to produce, while being incredibly versatile and effective at the same time. Usually, it did not have a handguard, but only a simple handle made of wood or bone. The long, wide, sturdy blade featured a straight cutting edge and a convex back sloping towards the tip (easy to forge), making it equally ideal for chopping, cutting, and carving. In addition, the Sax was also a proven combat knife, because thanks to its pronounced front heaviness and its sloping blade tip, it could effortlessly deliver terrible blows and stabs.
Over the years, Cold Steel®'s fascination with the history and performance potential of the Sax has steadily grown, and now it has been decided to create a simple version that Woodsman's Saxe called. Like some historical specimens that have survived, the Woodsman features a sturdy, 28 cm long blade with the characteristic drooping tip and a simple wooden handle (of exotic origin).
Each sax comes with a sturdy, historically accurate leather sheath with belt loops and authentic solid brass buckles.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and the relatively low levels of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material that is free from the brittleness inherent in most higher-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed-blade knives, machetes, and swords
