John Lee - Gunto Katana
Gunto is the term used for the Japanese military sword. End of the 19. In the 19th century, the design was inspired by French military sabers. To instill the spirit of the Samurai code of honor (Bushido) in the troops, it was decided to opt for a design inspired by the Katana starting from 1934. The swords of the common soldiers were mostly industrially manufactured and therefore of simple quality. On the other hand, the swords of high-ranking military officials were often equipped with traditional blades from the family heritage. The rank of an officer could be recognized by the colors of the sageos. Unlike the katana, the sageo was mounted at the end of the gunto's handle
