The Shashka (Circassian = " long knife) is a Caucasian-origin sabre, which dates back to the 19th. 1 pc. was adopted by the Russian military, to eventually become the legendary weapon of the famous Cossacks. The most characteristic feature of this saber was its hilt, which had no hand protection and was equipped with a distinctive downward-curved pommel. When used on horseback, the shashka was most effective due to its unique overall design, making it excellent for cavalry use.
The beautiful piece we offer here is a replica of an original Soviet Cossack saber Model 1934927, which was produced in the arms factory of Slatoust, USSR. During the Second World War, this type of NKVD Shashka was still in use within the ranks of the Red Army.
