Description
Battle Merchant - British Cavalry Sword 1912
The cavalry sword of 1912 was the very last sword issued to the cavalry officers of the British Army - this at a time when mounted attacks had largely become obsolete and swords were hardly used as weapons of war. It was considered the best cavalry sword ever designed, and was still in use during World War I.
The model of 1908919082 was clearly based on the model of 1908, but was much more elaborately decorated. Upon its introduction, it was issued to all officers to replace the inconsistent swords they had previously purchased privately. Compared to the standard sword, the handle was more refined in design: While the 1908er standard version of the simple soldiers was equipped with a handle made of rubber or Bakelite, these materials were replaced with sharkskin with nickel silver wire inlay in the officer's version. In addition, the bowl-shaped guard was entirely in the style of officer swords from the 19. adorned with a floral etching (honeysuckle motif) from the 19th century.
The 1912 model is still used today as a ceremonial sword by British, Australian, and Canadian cavalry units.
The beautiful, affordable reconstruction we offer here features a straight, single-edged blade made of spring steel EN45, which is grooved along about two-thirds of its length. The unsharpened edge is approx. 1 mm thick.
The container has a hand guard handle, and the generous, bowl-shaped guard has been faithfully reproduced with motifs inspired by historical models as much as possible. The handle with a wooden core is wrapped in black leather and twisted steel wire.
The cavalry sword comes with a matching full steel scabbard with two ring bands, movable carrying rings, and a wide, rounded end piece Shoe.
Please note that this sword is not suitable for combat. It is intended as a collector's item or. Decorative object designed and also excellent as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
