Continental Classification: Type Weisenau-Krefeld
Imperial helmet based on a find near the gate of the field camp and later fort Gelduba (Krefeld-Gellep, Germany). Built between the years 969 and 9 BC, it played a significant role in the Batavian Revolt 69/70 AD. Chrome. and lasted until the 5. century. The helmet combines various style elements in a unique way: "Eye" ornaments with raised pupils (as already known from Pre-Roman helmets), rudimentary raised eyebrow lines (as seen in the Imperial Gallic types), and the cross-shaped reinforcements of the Imperial Italic types.
Neck shade with angular decorations, handle, and "tabula ansata". The missing cheek flaps from the heavily damaged original were reconstructed following the model of the Imperial Italic D helmet from Worms and a single find with temple ornament from Venlo, Netherlands
Dating: Due to the stylistic elements Mainly 2. century n. Chrome. A use towards the end of the 1. "Century is also possible.". The original is a single find, without any further datable finds directly related. To date, it has not been proven that the helmet was lost during the Batavian Revolt.
