Description
Battle Merchant - Deurne Helmet 4th Century
Very elaborate reconstruction of a late Roman cavalry helmet found in Deurne, Holland during excavations. The rich decorations suggest that the wearer was a very high-ranking officer. A Roman coin found alongside the helmet bears the year 349, indicating that the helmet most likely dates back to the early 4st. Century
The helmet shell is riveted from six individual parts (straps). The cheek flaps are characterized by good flexibility. The neck flap is fastened with two leather straps with buckles, allowing it to be locked in place and even removed. The helmet is made of steel and brass, handcrafted, and features a very comfortable leather lining. The nasal, cheek, and neck flaps are lined with red leather on the inside
