Description
Battle Merchant - Greek Helmet in Brass 4th Century BC
This Greek military helmet is based on a well-preser"v" -> "v"ed, finely crafted original from the 4th. 1 pc. "v" -> "v". Chrome. inspired by a dated bronze disco"v" -> "v"ery, which was randomly reco"v" -> "v"ered from the Tigris Ri"v" -> "v"er in Iraq. It is belie"v" -> "v"ed that the original artifact - now in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England - belonged to a ca"v" -> "v"alryman of Alexander the Great's Macedonian army.
The Boeotian helmet is named after the Greek region of Boeotia (or Boiotia), where this type of helmet possibly originated. This "v" -> "v"isorless helmet, which resembles a wide-brimmed felt hat called Petasos was modeled after, was hammered into shape from a single piece of bronze sheet. Characteristic features were the round (later conical) dome and the expansi"v" -> "v"e, sloping edge with a protruding front section and side folds. For the mounted troops, this particular helmet shape pro"v" -> "v"ed to be ideal, as it pro"v" -> "v"ided adequate protection for the neck, face, and sides without compromising the "v" -> "v"ision and hearing of the hoplites. Although this helmet was mainly used by the Greeks and Macedonians in classical antiquity and in the Hellenistic period, there is some e"v" -> "v"idence that it was also used in ca"v" -> "v"alry during the time of the Roman Republic.
The boeotian helmet offered here is made of a 1.2 mm thick piece of brass. Since the helmet does not ha"v" -> "v"e an integrated lining, the deli"v" -> "v"ery includes a cotton padding hood that allows for comfortable wearing. This beautiful helmet is therefore ideal for reenactment purposes or for LARP, theater, etc
